Master Yasui started to learn glass crafts from a glass factory in Tokyo since the age of 19. The early stage of learning was always the hardest. In Tokyo, his working hours started from 8:00 in the morning to 12:00 noon. There was only one 10-minute break in between 10:00 to 10:10. People returned to work after a 40-minute lunch break. Next, the shift started at 12:40 through 17:30 with a 20-minute break after 15:00. He kept this working schedule when he was transferred to a glass factory in Gunma Prefecture.
Master Yasui said that learning was a matter of minutes and seconds; therefore, he learned how to adjust his working schedule and squeeze some time for practicing the skills. First of all, he arrived to the factory approximately 5:00 in the morning. And then he made good use of this extra time to acquire the technique for creating fine glass products. He continued to learn and practiced whenever he got a break. Of course he would still spend at most 10 minutes for filling his stomach. Lastly, his typically ended his day by sweeping the factory’s floor.
Master Yasui valued his time for learning once he started his journey on glass art. The occasional visits of his mother and the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee became the wondrous time of Master Yasui. A brief conclusion can be made by saying that his affection to glass art had superseded everything. He once said that he would not feel regret by devoting so much time on glass art. This proved that glass art plays an important role in his life even up until now. His feeling can be understood once somebody has a glance at his glass crafts. People can sense the warmness projected by him beneath the supposedly cool glass. People can also feel the happiness and loneliness inside Master Yasui. Moreover, his works provide people some unexpected experience and surprises. On one hand, they taught people to appreciate them with their eye; on the other hand, they taught people to feel empathy.
When he looks at other glass crafts, he often rolls them in his elbow as if he is making them. Many artists working in the same industry tend to attach color from other glass crafts or draw images on their glass. Even though they would receive appreciation from others, they possess nothing but just a basic skill of flame drawing, no creation is involved. In contrast, Master Yasui has a reputation of using his own ideas for art creation. His glass works consist of 7 to 8 laminations instead of 2 to 3 laminations. He is exceptionally experienced in control of color and temperature. He applies other natural material together with ink splashing skill in Chinese painting to express his art on the glass crafts. The uniqueness of his work is “unreachable”.
We normally think of cathedral glass as pieces of colorful glasses that bond together, but Master Yasui can create it by just one piece of glass. A reddish color comes out when the glass is completed under 1300 degree Celcius. The red color fades after an exposure to the air. And then there would be clear and separate crack lines that demonstrate the different colors. With no doubt, this proves the brilliant skills from Master Yasui.
1.The works are based on traditional manual blowing and make full use and expression of skills of glass craftsman. In color, proportion, or in transparency, there is no discrepancy to find and it reached the best of golden 3 peaks of manual glass blowing (Color, transparency and proportion). The Glass Arts of Master Yasui is settlement of 25 years experience. The maturity of techniques, the transparency of color and the integrity of proportion are all best of bests. He is a glass master combining skill of Japan, style of Italy and perception of China.
2.Arts creators never stop pursuit deeper, higher and more unique breaking works. Since 1990 Master Yasui makes and creates styling glass arts. In his young time, he had wild creative imagination and the great glass works of IGS demonstrated prominently his childish and wild arts philosophy. They gradually expressed in his works of glass styling creative works from 1990. It was because of this that his glass styling works of IGS till日展, he won awards every year. After the unlimited thinking, the works of Master Yasui got to higher level and returning to plain and simple rose from this period. This shows in his works with a simple fabulousness. This is a level of from complicacy to nil.
3.夕張is in Hokaido. It was a coal mining city. The prosperity of mining industry is waning away. But Master Yasui linger there to imagine the prosperity brought to the place by coal mining. The dark coal brought the richness and prosperity to this place. He discover rainbow of black from coal. Amazed by it, He started to combine coal and silicone, the raw material of glass together. After refining in temperature as high as 1300 degree Celsius, he created glass with characteristics of porcelain. He then clad gold and silver foil onto the works. After cracking under high temperature, he created pieces of porcelain like glass works. This is another unique creation of Master Yasui.
4.The glass works expressing colors of 4 seasons, which include the earth, flower, grasses, color, landscape, image in the work, covered things and ideas of the world and the nature. He works applied high volume of gold, silver and rosary gold. In addition to the artistic value, the superb arts of creator are further enhanced by the nobility of precious metal. It is beauty to collect, it is wealth itself. (Red series use highest ratio of bold, as red is color of combination of gold, copper and silicone)
5.When he visits glass work during his travel, he often places glass to roll in his elbow and sometimes rolls it as if he is blowing glass. Teachers of higher skill would attach color of other glass to glass, drawing flowers, grass, plants or animal figures. After showing off, they receive palms claps and sighs. This is basic skill of flame drawing. Master Yasui, in different way, he applied ever higher skill to combine own idea of art creation. He increases works normally of 2 to 3 laminations to 7 or 8 laminations. He is exceptionally experienced in control of color and temperature. He applies other natural material together with ink splashing skill in Chinese painting to express his arts on glass works. In a short while of watching, the glass seems to have disappeared. The uniqueness of his works is simply unreachable.
6.In cathedral glass we normally find is made by bonding pieces of color glass together. But the works of Master Yasui is completed in one move. When we see it completed under 1300 degree C, we see the reddish works at the high temperature. Short while after contacting air, red color faded and the works is demonstrating brilliant and multi-color work and each of them are separated and independent from other. (Crack line series is the unique creative works of Master Yasui.
